Coronavirus Update | Gala Postponed to September 4, 2020

April 5, 2020

Dear Members,

We hope that everyone is safe and healthy during this unsettling time. We want you to know that our year-round employees have been strictly observing the recommended protocols. Lauren has been working from home and only stops in once a day, and Clay and his crew have been observing social distancing or staying home. We will keep evaluating their level of engagement as this situation progresses.

We have no idea what this pandemic means for our summer.  Fortunately, that is still seven weeks away.  There will undoubtedly be changes to the way we all use the beach club, and we will communicate those changes to you as the season approaches. This is not going to be a “normal” summer.  For example, we plan to distribute the club’s social events calendar a little later this year, since we are holding our breath to see what happens in New Jersey over the next few weeks.  Similarly, we are preparing the beach club to open on time, but we’re acutely aware of the fact that all the year-round clubs in the state are closed indefinitely.

Regrettably, we have decided to reschedule the 125th Anniversary Gala from Saturday, June 27, 2020 to Friday, September 4, 2020, followed by the family brunch on Saturday, September 5th.  While we don’t know what late June will bring, we are pretty sure that a 400-person party will not be part of that landscape.  Nor would a gala be appropriate, given what our community is going through. We are hopeful that, by early September, we will be allowed to throw a big party and, more importantly, that we will all want to go.

We hope that everyone stays safe and remains strong as we all get through this together.

Brett Lawrence, President
